Finishing Up

For my favorite baby

A few weeks ago I treated myself to a new sewing machine, my old one having got a bit temperamental over the years - probably not helped by my habit of hitting the metal bones on corsets with the needle whenever I've made one.

Here is the finished version of the cross stitch I did for my best friends new baby. I finished it a good while back (as you can tell from the date).

The new machine is lovely but I've been procrastinating about making up the pillow - I'm always worried I'll manage to ruin all my good stitching work by being not so good with a machine.

The outline fabric is taken from a silk bias cut dress I had made for me in Vietnam years ago (and has long since ceased to fit me). Its a lovely colour and texture and the reason why I never throw out good fabric - one day I will find a use for it!

One the back is a quilting fabric in a nice spot. I decided against an inner cushion and zip because they're scratchy (although its obviously decorative rather than a usable pillow).
