A visit to the Knitting and Stitching Show

I've spent the weekend at the Knitting and Stitching show in Dublin, and had a terrific time. Simon joined me on Saturday, but as he's off to the US this week, I was there on my own today. I took in several workshops (more on those later) and hit the various stalls - picking up some difficult to get hold of acessories including a pile of 4 inch hoops for final framing of my monograms. And some lovely new books.

A lot of the stalls were knitting or quilting focused, but there was plenty enough to see and do for an embroiderer, including lots of textile artists.

The Royal School of Needlework had a big stall - showing off some of the work of their students all of which were very impressive, but I'm always most drawn to the silk shading and the goldwork. I really should have take some pictures.... I also spent quite a bit of time chatting to the staff there, including one of their current Future Tutor students - a course I'm very seriously considering applying for in the New Year - so chatting to them was very helpful.

Finally I also added a few books to my rapidly growing collection:
Colour Confidence in Embroidery - which is particularly focused on silk shading, and how to blend colours effectively to create better shading.
I also bought two books by Hazel Blomkamp - Crewel Twists and Crewel Intentions, which have some beautiful Jacobean style designs I'm itching to have a go at.
